The Measure
This is not my usual read; I tend to cozy lit-fic or sci-fi novellas (though I think this classifies on the borderline of sci-fi?) but it was highly recommended at our book club last month, so I decided to reserve the audiobook at our local library.
First of all, the audiobook narrator knocked it out of the park - usually, I don’t pay too much attention to the narrator’s voice, but this one did an excellent job keeping the pace moving quickly, and with it, the plot. Not to say that I felt rushed, but when you have multiple POVs of the same event happening simultaneously, it can get a little slow sometimes. Thankfully, I always felt that the plot was new and fresh, even if we knew what the outcome would be.
Needless to say, a book about everyone having a predicable ‘ending’ gave me a bit of a surprise ending, which I appreciated. I always love a good twist. Though I felt like the epilogue dragged on quite a bit; the resolution being 10% of the book length was quite long, but not overly so.
